When I came to the legal field from my previous career as a University Professor, I tried my hand at every type of practice, to see where I fit best. After trying Litigation, Divorce, Bankruptcy, Criminal Defense, Trial work, Intellectual Property, I came to the realization that a great deal of what Lawyers do is revolting. I would come home from work feeling disgusting and slimy, having spent all day highlighting all the negative aspects of my personality.
The Change
It all came to a head at the end of my 1st year practicing law, I came home and my wife said to me:
“I don’t know who you are but I hate your guts! Whatever you’ve done with my husband, please give him back to me!”
I realizes that the competitive, adversarial aspect of the law was poisoning me and my relationships with the people who really matter.
Why Estate Law?
I decided that Estate law was the best way I could use my skills to be a blessing in the lives of others.
I knew how to help people:
- Keep the money they earned
- Give less money to the government
- Give less money to lawyers
- Leave more money to their family
- Have their money be a positive blessing to their family
People want to have a good life. We want to have enough money and to spare. We don’t want to leave our children with a financial mess at our passing, or cause them irreparable damage by leaving them money and no idea how to use it. Live Well, Leave a Legacy was born out of my desire to help people achieve those basic goals.
